Greg and Rod purchased rejected sheets from Ted, who was working at acrylic manufacturer Nylex and began producing acrylic coffee tables, which they sold to interior design shops around Melbourne. In 1973, Greg relocated to Brisbane and borrowed $2,000 from the Commercial Bank of Australia. It was in that year that EGR was formally registered, using the initials of the brothers Greg and Rod and their father Edward. 10 years later in 1983, the brothers saw a need for drivers to be able to protect their quartz halogen headlights from breaking. To service this need EGR Automotive was born. beginning with the production of acrylic headlight covers for the iconic XD Ford Falcon.
